swine and beef processing facility, with a capacity of 500-750
head per day, produced an effluent discharge of 30,000 gallons
per day. It was using a 40 hp turbine for aeration at a
cost for electricity of $2,000 per month. Chemical flocculants
were also required to contol solid build-up, at a cost of
$4,000 per month.
The Challenge
In 1997, a $700,000
wastewater remediation system from Europe was installed.
Solids build-up continued to the point that the pond was
95% crusted over and there were very strong odors with numerous
community complaints.
